Round 4, Wakefield, 11-12 September 2010. 2nd, 2nd,2nd,1st - 2nd overall for the weekend
I went into the round with high hopes and was really disappointed when Fridays practice was pretty well washed out. This meant that Saturday was spent getting the bike set up for the main day Sunday.
Saturday Qualifying proved very slow with a very slippery, cold track. The lap times showed that we all struggled for a perfect lap.
I only managed 4th on the grid with a time of 1:07.250, which was much slower than my times earlier in the year.
Race 1. I got a great start and tried to gap the field. Still with a slippery track and set up that still needed some work, it proved hard to get away. I made a few small mistakes that allowed Ryan to get away and I could only take 2nd by race end.
Race 2 and 3. Were a lot closer with Ryan and I finishing nose to tail in both races. Each time out I changed suspension settings and also gearing settings with faster laps happening in every race as the day went on.
Sunday. Qualifying felt much better and the bike was working great. Watching my pit board the entire time showed that I was sitting in pole with 6min to go when I was held up doing up the hill on a flying lap so I decided to save the tyres and come in the pits.
With just 2 min left in qualifying I was sent back to 2nd by Ryan again. I was really disappointed not to get pole but was also really happy with the bike and looking forward to the race.
Race 1. I didn’t get the start I really wanted and had to settle into a very close battle with Ryan again with both of us pushing hard. I was able to get into the lead coming into the hairpin with 2 laps to go. My next lap was far from perfect though, running wide onto the dirt coming down the hill and nearly high-siding coming out of the infield, all allowing Ryan to get back past and take the win, 2nd again was frustrating.
Race 2. I got a shocker start and also allowed big Phil Lovett to come past down the hill allowed Ryan to get a gap that I could not close. I settled for 2nd and tried to save the tyres a bit for the last race.
Race 3. I knew I had to get a great start. This time I did manage to get the jump on the field and I put my head down and kept watching the lap board. I managed to get a small gap and extend it a bit to finish 3.2 seconds clear and setting the fastest lap of the weekend in Pro twins with a 1:02.070.
