Round 5 Eastern Creek October 30th-31st

Round 5 at eastern creek was always going to be close, in the race for the Australian FX Pro Twins Championship for Chris Knox.

Friday’s practice I didn’t stress about too much, and took my time to get the bike to feel right. I went out in the last session to set some quick laps but two laps in and the front header pipe cracked, requiring a rushed repair job to be ready for Qualifying on Saturday.

Saturday Qualifying went well and I managed to get pole with a time of 1:36:792. Not as fast as I wanted but it was still pole.

Race one on Saturday went just to plan, taking the race win and having Phil Lovett coming home in second between Ryan and I.

Race two and three, the result didn’t go to plan. I took two 2nd places behind Ryan.

Each race I tried different suspension settings, in chase of the perfect set up for Sunday. I managed to take the fastest lap of the day in race 3 with a 1:36:9

I knew Sunday was going to be much of the same with Ryan and I fighting it out for the Australian Championship. It meant I‘d have to make sure that I did everything I could to stay smooth and fast.

Qualifying was very close but I only managed 2nd spot on the grid.

In race one I messed the start up and was 4th going into turn 2, then Phil and I managed to get past as ‘Loopy’ nearly high-sided himself and Ryan had to run wide.

I got past Phil and then made a few small mistakes which enabled Ryan to close the gap and pass me. 2nd for the first race was not what I needed.

There was still a small chance of taking the championship but it was going to be hard.

Race 2 and I managed to get a great start, with my head down to gap the field. I had a 3.5 sec gap after the first lap and kept watching my lap board to stay focused.

The race went perfectly, gapping the field by just over 8 sec and taking the fastest lap again with a 1:35:867.

Race 3 and I knew I had to repeat my efforts. I had hoped that Ryan would finish a few spots back in the field. I managed to get a good start and create a small gap on the field. I made a few small mistakes but kept my head down. By race end, I had a gap of 2.5 sec’s.

The weekend went almost to plan. I managed to take the round win and fastest lap in each race. However I missed the championship by 7 points.

A huge thanks has to go out to everyone that has helped us through the year, with out them it just would not be possible to be there racing.
